Most things in life are pretty cut and dry, but sometimes we come
across words, terms or phrases that are open to interpretation. In
today's building world the word "Green" is that word. For years if
someone admitted to being "Green" most people would label you a
"Tree Hugger", a "Liberal" or a "Greenie". Well for the most part
that is completely untrue. Right or Left, Black or White, being
"Green" is an attitude that comes to the surface when it effects our
pocketbooks, our families and our communities.
"Green" is not something that we just say or something we just
do, but it is something that has to become a way of life for us.
Recycling cans and putting in some compact fluorescents are easy and
practical, but we still have not changed our lifestyles. We need to
look at ourselves and decide what is important to us. When enough
folks make changes to their lifestyles, then we will start to see
these changes make a difference, but is that enough?
"Green" has to be practical for people, "Green" has to be responsible.
We don't just replace things for the sake of replacing things. We have to think through the
process from start to finish. Bottom line, "Green" is a lifestyle
decision for individuals and families, helping us in the decisions
that we make in our daily lives.
